"Wings," is a striking abstract sculpture crafted from bog oak, a rare and naturally preserved wood known for its dark, rich patina. The sculpture features a dynamic, flowing form creating the shape of wings, with multiple curved and layered elements extending outward from a central point.
Long ago, in a misty forest, a majestic eagle soared through the skies, its wings carrying tales of freedom and resilience. One fateful day, a storm raged, and the bird, exhausted, descended into a peat bog, where it was preserved for centuries. Over time, the bog transformed the wood of a fallen tree into the dark, bog oak, saturated with the bird’s spirit. When I  discovered this ancient wood and carved "Wings," it captured the essence of that bird’s journey—its struggle, rest, and eternal ascent. The sculpture stands as a symbol of renewal, where nature and art intertwine to tell a story of survival and the beauty found in stillness after flight.
 It is mounted on a small, sturdy wooden( Elm) base, which provides stability and highlights the sculpture's organic texture. The dark, almost black hue of the bog oak contrasts beautifully with the lighter, polished surface of the base, adding depth and visual interest. The piece measures 35cms (H) 33cms (D) 60 cms. (W) wingspan and its intricate carving showcases the natural grain and unique characteristics of the ancient wood. This artwork evokes a sense of movement and transformation, making it a captivating centrepiece for any modern interior.
 
*2019 Lullymore Heritage &Discovery Park in association with Maynooth University
 ( Geography Dept.) undertook Peat Coring Research using carbon dating, indicating  that the present layer of peat formed 2600 years ago.
